1

VINOD PATEL & FCCC SIGN FIRST EVER Suva, 1st July 2019: The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission today has signed the first-ever Voluntary Compliance Framework (Framework) with Vinod Patel.

The Framework aims to improve the level of voluntary compliance of traders and create the conditions necessary to facilitate voluntary compliance as the most cost-effective and efficient approach.

The Framework will help traders comply voluntarily and correctly with consumer law, regulations or requirements while reducing Customs’ burdens like inspection and efforts for improving data quality.

Vinod Patel Chief Executive Veeral Patel said “Through this Voluntary Compliance Framework, we aim to achieve clarity and transparency. Often, a gap exists in expectation and interpretation of laws between regulators and those who have to comply. This often leads to non-compliances and costs that could have easily been avoided.”

Mr Patel added that through the Voluntary Compliance Framework with initiatives such as training, information sharing, clear lines of communication and compliance audits, Vinod Patel expects to bridge this gap and ensure effective application of our responsibilities in accordance with the FCCC Act.”

FCCC Chief Executive Joel Abraham says the aim is to roll out the Framework to other larger businesses in Fiji and to ensure both consumers and traders conduct services in compliance with the FCCC guidelines.

The Framework is expected to build stronger partnership. Vinod Patel will work closely with FCCC to ensure that their trading and consumer protection practices fully comply with the FCCC Act. The Vinod Patel Team are looking forward to learning and adopting best practices in consumer protection from FCCC over the next 6 months and beyond.
